Don Brush was recently promoted to the position of Acting Director of the City of Sierra Vista’s Community Development Department. Don has been with the City for 15 years, and has 21 years of planning experience. He worked in planning previously for Summit County, Utah and Mason County, Washington. He is certified under the American Institute of Certified Planners. Don holds two bachelor degrees, in Business Administration and Environmental Studies.

Don has worked extensively with water and environmental issues. He was the lead for an environmental impact process for a major sand and gravel operation in Washington State, and also processed extensive environmental reviews. With Sierra Vista he has worked on numerous water-related issues, including development code amendments that limit use of turf, require hot-water recirculation pumps, and put restrictions on new golf courses. He also wrote the City’s recently-adopted architectural guidelines and outdoor lighting regulations.

For enjoyment Don enjoys bike riding, hiking, reading and photography. He loves to travel and has visited Nepal, Switzerland, Austria, Ireland, Alaska and Hawaii. Don has lived with his partner Melinda for 26 years. They live in Sonoita with their four dogs and three cats.
